Poem #1 -National Poetry Month
National Poetry Month
It’s April which means yes, festival season has begun but its also:
NATIONAL POETRY MONTH!
As many of you may or may not know, I love to write. I know you’re probably thinking “well yeah, you started a blog!” but I especially love poetry. I dabble a bit myself in the writing of poems but I just haven’t built up the courage to publicize any of my work. To me, poetry is a very personal and beautiful form of art. It’s raw emotion being transcribed into words, into something you can share with others. Think of it as a physical transformation of thoughts and ideas. It’s a way to express yourself and what I love the most is that there is no right way to do it. There are a variety of different poetry styles such as Haiku, Ballads, Limerick, the list goes on! My favorite style is definitely free verse because of the way it just flows, there is no particular structure needed. What poetry has to offer is not in the form of hidden meanings or messages and that’s where I think a lot of folks make that misconception of needing to dissect a poem word for word. When it examines life, when it tugs at people’s hearts, when the voice of one tells the story of many, poetry can be anything but boring.. Many poets like to “play” with the sound of language or offer an emotional insight by describing what they see or feel in their own words. We are all full of different emotions and perspectives but there’s comfort in knowing that what you’re feeling, someone else is feeling too.
Being that it’s National Poetry Month I’d like to share some poems with you guys throughout all of April. I would also really like for you to reflect and comment/ message me your thoughts on the poems. Let’s discuss how we connect with these authors through our experiences and emotions we might have bottled up inside.Who knows? Maybe their words will resonate with your current situations and help you remember that we are all human and it’s okay to express yourself. Like a picture, a poem captures a fleeting moment — making the experience timeless. In a sense, poetry helps us to know each other and build community. It renews and expands the gift of our imagination. The more imaginative we are, the more compassionate we become – and that I think that’s something we should all strive for. ♥
I know there are a million poets and writers out there and they’re all amazing but I’ll do my best to post a variety of poems and authors.
Any favorite poems or writers you guys would like to see? I’m open to any suggestions and I might even finally post a little something of my own. I hope these literary works stir up your imagination as well as your heart.

Poppin’ in Periwinkle
So my cousin and I got to talking and we both decided that our fav spring nail color is :
PERIWINKLE!
Super pretty, super chic, and it has the cutest name!
Periwinkle can be described as a color in between blue and violet. It’s such a flirty spring color, you can’t go wrong with this pretty pastel. It’ll stand out against an all black ensemble or you could even throw on a neutral colored tee (grey/white) to give an all over relaxed vibe. It’s a perfect dusty color so you won’t have to worry about it being too bright on your hands or feet. I’ve even seen girls with their hair colored periwinkle! Our obsession doesn’t just end with nail polish, we love it on cute summer dresses, purses and even make up! It’s extremely versatile and can make for a great splash of color on any occasion . Play off periwinkle’s mysterious allure on your next date or have some fun with contrast by pairing it with some mustard colored shorts at Coachella . (See you second weekend!) Gold and yellow variations are good opposites that compliment periwinkle without having a clash so don’t be afraid to mix it up. The periwinkle possibilities are endless!
